What Makes Southeast Veterinary Neurology Different?

Our board-certified veterinary neurologists will thoroughly review your pet’s condition and a full examination will be performed. This includes a neurological examination which evaluates the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles.  Board-certified neurologists have received extra training beyond veterinary school and must pass several rigorous examinations before becoming board-certified.  Southeast Veterinary Neurology (SEVN) is fortunate to employ the only neurologists in Miami-Dade that are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine specialty of Neurology.

Many of the conditions evaluated by a veterinary neurologist require advanced imaging. For the majority of neurological conditions, this is the only way to diagnose your pet’s condition. SEVN utilizes the latest diagnostic technologies to accurately and appropriately manage your pet’s condition. Our neurologists may recommend some of the following tests:

Southeast Veterinary Neurology (SEVN) specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles.  As the only veterinarians in Miami that are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialty of Neurology, we aim to be an extension of your hospital for complicated neurological cases including paralysis, difficulty walking, pain that does not respond to medications, seizure management, balance disorders, spinal fractures, head trauma, brain tumors, spinal tumors, strokes, encephalitis and atlantoaxial instability.

We utilize the latest technology at SEVN, including a 1.5T MRI.  A 1.5T MRI allows our neurologists to acquire a more accurate diagnosis in less time (less anesthesia) compared to low-field magnets.  High-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the standard in human imaging and can detect abnormalities that low-field MRI and CT can miss.

We understand that most neurological conditions are urgent matters and are committed to taking your call.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have about a neurological patient, whether they will be referred to us for further care or not.  We are open for regular and emergency appointments Monday through Friday.  We strive to accommodate same-day appointments.

We are available after hours.  After hours, referring veterinarians may call our main line at (305) 274-2777.  Leaving a message will activate an emergency page to the neurologist on call.  If the neurologist is unable to contact you within 15 minutes, please call Miami Pet Emergency.
