Dr. Michael Wong Makes the GATOR100 List

One of few board-certified veterinary neurologists in the United States and Canada (there are fewer than 300), Dr. Michael Wong established Southeast Veterinary Neurology in 2010. He is a graduate – magna cum laude – of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida, a major animal referral center serving south Florida and the Caribbean. At the same time he was earning his degree, he found time to establish the Association of Veterinary Business Management, which offers a certificate in practice management. The curriculum includes instruction in the business and financial aspects of running a veterinary practice, including employee relations and practice ownership.

Among his other achievements are:

  • Completion of internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey.
  • Residency in neurology and neurosurgery at North Florida Neurology.
  • He was among the first veterinary neurologists to have earned the Advanced Neurosurgical Certification.

For all his academic and professional accolades, Dr. Wong is perhaps best known for his role in operating pro bono on Lola, a four-year-old dachshund that had suffered a slip disk that prevented her from walking. “I was doing the surgery, and it came to me,” Dr Wong said. “I wanted to give them their dog back.”
